Georgy Pinkhassov
Georgy Pinkhassov was born in Moscow on August 12, 1952. His interest in photography emerged during his school years. He graduated from the directing department of VGIK (the Moscow Film Institute) while simultaneously working as a photographer at the Mosfilm studio, where he later became an independent photographer.
In 1978, Pinkhassov joined the Moscow Union of Graphic Artists, gaining status as an independent artist. Around this time, his work caught the attention of the renowned film director Andrei Tarkovsky, who invited Georgy to document the making of his film "Stalker" (1979). This assignment and his acquaintance with the famous director provided a significant boost to the young and ambitious photographer's career. In 1985, Georgy relocated permanently to Paris. Three years later, in 1988, he joined the Magnum Photos agency. To this day, Pinkhassov remains the only photographer of Russian origin ever to have worked for this prestigious agency.
