Dmitry Lovetsky
The photographs by Dmitry Lovetsky, an Associated Press employee, at first glance appear simple, artless, and perhaps even primitive. Many who have seen his work may have caught themselves thinking they could shoot just as well. However, each of his frames actually requires considerable effort, and replicating the effect these images produce is not so easy.
To capture the right moment as skillfully as Dmitry does requires not only hard work but also, as cliché as it sounds, great talent—practice alone is not enough. And although Dmitry Lovetsky himself treats his work with deliberate lightness, he is today one of the most professional photojournalists in the country.
“My photographic Bible is the The Family of Man exhibition, which toured the world in the 1960s, where Edward Steichen—the famous American artist and photographer—presented works by authors from various countries, including the Soviet Union. That exhibition sought to reveal the essence of humanity as a whole. War, peace, love—all themes were touched upon,” says Dmitry.
