Yuri Kozyrev
Yuri Kozyrev is a Russian military photojournalist.
He was born in 1963 in Moscow.
He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University.
He entered professional photography in 1986.
He covered major military conflicts that arose on the territory of the former USSR starting in 1989.
From 1994 onwards — the war in Chechnya. Followed by Afghanistan, and since 2001, Iraq.
Yuri Kozyrev has been almost permanently stationed in Iraq since October 2002.
He has collaborated with publications such as: Los Angeles Times, The Times, Time, Het Parool, Elsevier, Ogonyok, Itogi, Ezhedelny Zhurnal (The Weekly Magazine), and others.
In the 1990s, he collaborated with the photo agency Katz Pictures.
In 2001 and 2002, he was a member of the World Press Photo contest jury.
Awards:
Winner of 1st and 3rd places in the News category of the World Press Photo contest, 2000.
Prize-winner at the Press Photo Russia contests in 2002 (Chechnya) and 2003 (Best Photographic Project of the Year, The Factory, Iraq).
Winner of The World Press Club Photo Award and The Overseas Press Club Oliver Rebbot Award. His work has been recognized by the International Center of Photography (ICP).
