Andrey Chepakin
Born in Leningrad in 1957.
After finishing school, he served in the Soviet Army.
Following his military service, he worked on the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, where he began his involvement with photography.
He has worked for the newspapers Molodyozh Buriatii, Leningradskaya Pravda, Izvestia, and Parliamentary Gazette, and headed media services at the Baltic Media Group and PJSC Gazprom Neft.
He has collaborated with major Russian and international publications and agencies—from Ogonyok and Moskovskiye Novosti to Newsweek and Esquire. He has shot his projects in Italy, England, Greece, China, France, Australia, Germany, Portugal, Finland, Spain, Norway, and other countries. He works in various genres and fields—from conflict zones to the Kremlin press pool. As a sports photographer, he has covered the Olympic Games, World and European Championships, and World Cups in various sports. Recently, he has been a regular collaborator with the Anna Bogaliy Cup.
He is a laureate of international and national professional awards. He was the first Russian photographer to receive the "Golden Pen" award in photojournalism. He has been recognized as Journalist of the Year in St. Petersburg. He is a recipient of the St. Petersburg Government Award in Journalism and a laureate of national and international awards in culture and the arts.
He holds state awards, including the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland," 2nd Class, among others. He is the author of several solo exhibitions in Russia and abroad.
He is the Chairman of the Guild of Photojournalists of the Union of Journalists of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region and a member of the Board of the Union of Journalists of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
